May turned out to be the #4 month for #CanadianAtheist readership as far back as our records go! Hell of a way to lead in to the summer slump! !atheism

I just had the most surreal experience. I had some tunes playing, and about 100 tabs open to news sites for the #CanadianAtheist #WeeklyUpdate. Suddenly, the bass in the song cut out... and I could hear someone speaking. Someone very familiar. Took me a moment to place it... then a moment of pure bafflement: When the fuck did Frank Ocean sample Justin Trudeau?!

Took me *several* seconds of confusion before I realized one of the background tabs had started to #autoplay a Justin Trudeau interview.

The really crazy thing is, it just happened to work *perfectly* with the song, like playing Pink Floyd's The Wall with The Wizard of Oz.

On a completely unrelated yet suspiciously adjacent note, only one more month to go until pot is legal!

The #BCHA's campaign to get the BC government to make !secular, evidence-based recovery options the default is awesome, and you should sign the petition (especially if you live in BC).

But after reading Bushfield's articles on #CanadianAtheist and in The Tyee, I started to wonder: What are the secular, evidence-based recovery options? I know of SMART Recovery, but are there others? What is their availability like across !Canada? How many have been studied and reviewed in peer-review literature?

If anyone knows about these things, I'd really appreciate hearing what you know. Also, if anyone knows where to find good, well-sourced data, and - even better - experts in the field (particularly academics at Canadian universities), please share, so maybe we at Canadian Atheist can dig a little deeper into the topic. !atheism !secularhumanism https://www.canadianatheist.com/2018/08/fighting-faith-based-addiction-recovery-in-bc/

Sorry, #CanadianAtheist #WeeklyUpdate will be very late this week; had no power and/or internet since yesterday afternoon.

Happy #HumanLight to the #CanadianAtheist crew: I think @shawndroid and @dianora are the only ones in the !fediverse so far (though I could be wrong, if I am correct me!)... I should really get to work on fixing that! !Canada !atheism !secular !secularhumanism
